THE COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE IS IN A CONFUSED STATE- SAM GEORGE
According to the Ningo Prampram Member of Parliament, Hon. Samuel George Nartey, there has been an upheaval in the Communication committee, therefore the sector is in a confused state.
Sam George who happens to be a member of the communications committee said there has been some friction between the Chairman of the committee, Kennedy Agyapong and the Communications Minister, Hon. Ursula Owusu Ekuful and for this reason there have been a disrupt in the committee.
The following are some members of the Communications Committee; Hon. Kennedy Agyapong as the Chairperson and Hon. Bintin Charles Binipom as the Vice Chairperson of the committee. They also have the Deputy Ranking member, Hon. Daniel Kwesi Ashiamah and the Ranking member, Hon Bashir Fuseini Alhassan.
This dissension between the Chairperson and the Communications Minister was recently situated when Kennedy Agyapong walked out in Parliament when the Communications Minister appeared for the presentation of the controversial KelniGVG deal.
Mr. Nartey further said that the sector basically is not working because the Parliament’s communication committee is unable to meet. He made reference to the absentness of the Chairman by saying that the Chairman himself does not attend meetings so how would the committee have meetings.
In my humble opinion, the absentness of the Chairman should not prevent the committee from meeting and discussing matters that are of interest to the Parliament. Therefore, meetings should be held with or without the Chairman but he should later be updated about the issues that was discussed in his absence.
The most important thing is that the committee should be unified and solve communicative issues of concern to the Parliament and the subjects involved rather than involving their personal matters in the committee.
