COCOA FARMERS CAN DO BETTER WITHOUT THE HELP OF GOVERNMENT-CHEIF FARMER.

The Chief Farmer of Ejisu Municipality and Vice Chairman of the Ghana Association of Farmers and Fishermen,James Yaw Apau has argued that cocoa farmers can function adequately without the government intruding.

Mr. Apau in reaction to a statement made by the Minority which claim that the ruling party per their decision seem to be cheating cocoa farmers in the country.

In a speech by the Minority Spokesperson on Agric and Cocoa Affair,Hon. Eric OPoku during a press conference on Wednesday,he laid emphasis on issues affecting cocoa farmers in the country under the auspices of the ruling party.

“Surprisingly, the NPP government on assumption of office has replaced the free fertilization programme with a programme under which farmers pay (Ghc 80) for a bag of fertilizer. This is unacceptable,we cannot sit aloof for the government to cheat our cocoa farmers” he said.

Meanwhile the Vice Chairman for the Ghana Association of Cocoa Farmers and Fishermen has objected to the stand of the Minority neither is he in support of the decision of the ruling

“Cocoa farmers can function better without government .The government on the grounds of making huge profit from cocoa farmers pretend to be rendering a helping hand to cocoa farmers but at the long run use this means to make their own profit”,he said.

“Cocoa farming is an individual’s decision hence there is no need for government to decide for cocoa farmers as to the kind of measures to put in place in order to yield more produce at the end of the farming season because they (cocoa farmers) can make that decision on their own”,he added
