Carles Puyol insists Marc-Andre ter Stegen is one of the ‘best goalkeepers in the world’ despite Celta Vigo error

Former Barcelona captain Carles Puyol has given support to Marc-Andre ter Stegen following his mistake in the club’s 4-3 defeat by Celta Vigo.

Ter Stegen was at fault for Celta Vigo’s fourth goal of the night after his attempted pass hit Pablo Hernandez in the head before the ball rolled into the empty net.

Puyol, however, who won 21 trophies with the Catalan giants, praises Ter Stegen very highly and believes he will bounce back from his mistake.

‘For me, Ter Stegen is one of the best goalkeepers in the world, brings a lot and speaking as a supporter, has my full support,’ he said, via Marca.

‘It’s worse when a goalkeeper makes errors because you’re closer to the goal.

‘You have to continue with the same confidence, but he has character to spare, so there should be no problem.’

Following their loss to Celta Vigo, Barcelona currently sit fourth in the La Liga table with 13 points, two behind Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid.

Luis Enrique’s side next face Deportivo La Coruna on October 15 and they will be hoping to go on a hot winning streak in the league.
