For the first official batch going through this program, BlueSPACE Africa is collaborating with its OEM partner, Palo Alto Networks, the global cybersecurity leader to train and equip the faculties of the Computer Science Departments of Lancaster University Ghana and Ashesi University.
As the global skills gap continues to widen, BlueSPACE Africa will provide the training and the testing ground with access to state of the art labs, attacks simulator, cyber-attack exercises and learning materials that would equip the Computer Science Department and faculties of these institutions to take the responsibility for closing the skills gap.
This experience approach will give participant student and Cyber Security professional alike the skills in next-generation Cyberthreat Prevention methods and technologies they will need to succeed in today’s cyber threat landscape.
The major driver behind this BlueSPACE Local IT Resource Developing Initiative is to develop a skill pool of IT professional right here on the continent that would meet and compete with International Standards by 2022.
Last year, Cybersecurity Ventures predicted that cybercrime will cost the world $6 trillion annually by 2021, up from $3 trillion in 2015. This represents the greatest transfer of economic wealth in history has risked the incentives for innovation and investment, and will be more profitable than the global trade of all major illegal drugs combined.
In a recent report on the current state of Ghana’s cybersecurity landscape, it was estimated that the
cost of cybercrime in Ghana has soared to over $50 million and this cost will continue to grow as
many organizations automate their processes.
This is particularly so for the banking and other financial service sectors where the introduction of mobile and e-services has introduced new weaknesses that have allowed the loss of money through these channels from both Government and privately owned institutions.
BlueSPACE Africa will provide this initiative free of charge or at a minimal cost to all participating institutions.
