Asamoah Gyan to be honoured with Doctorate degree

The Black Stars striker will be awarded with an honorary doctorate degree in Kumasi next month.

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan will receive an honorary doctorate degree from Ukraine-based Alfred Noble University next month in Kumasi for his ‘incredible’ services for the senior national team.

The 31-year-old has had an illustrious campaign with Ghana since making his debut in 2003. He has netted 50 goals to become the team’s all-time top scorer and the fifth African player to achieve that feat.

“It’s good somebody is out there recognizing what I’m doing. I feel honored by this gesture,” Gyan told reporters on Friday.

“Initially, I thought I was just doing it for God, but human beings on this earth have also recognized it. I feel honored, and I can’t wait for the day I will be honored as Dr. Asamoah Gyan.

“It will urge me to do more. I’m happy with the title Dr. Gyan and I can’t wait,” he added.

Gyan has come under pressure recently to give back to society despite constructing a $200,000 worth astro turf for his former school.

“Definitely, there will be more pressure because people will be expecting me to do more. But I think it’s a good pressure, it encourages you to do more.

“I’m just praying to the Almighty God to give me long life to help mankind because I always try to help the community as best as I can,” he said.

The ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Faculty of Law of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), with high ranking personalities expected to grace the occasion.
