Following the alleged murder of Stacy Offei-Darko at the Obengfo hospital, the Registrar of the Medical and Dental Council addresses the media to update the public on the issues concerning Dr. Dominic Obeng-Andoh
The Registrar of the Medical and Dental Council Dr. Eli Kwasi Atikpuli in an address to the media on June7, 2018 says the council has struggled to close down the hospital and suspend Dominic Obeng for more than a decade. He further says that Dr. Obeng has no specialist qualification registered with the council that entitles him to undertake liposuction and fat transfer surgery in Ghana.
Speaking to the media during a press conference at the council’s conference room in Accra, he stated that Dr. Obeng was arrested on December18, 2016 by a team of police officers from the SWAG unit of the police headquarters for practicing surgery without registration which is contrary to the law.
The death of the Deputy Chief Executive of the National Entrepreneurship Innovation Programme (NEIP), Stacy Offei-Darko adds up to three people who had died in the hospital but since the council has not received official complains from the family, it cannot be put in record, he said. He further claimed that even though complains had been received from the families of the other victims, they were asked to bring in evidence but they went without returning to the council.
Also present was the chairman of the council, Prof. Paul Nyame who urged the public to be on the lookout for quake doctors and appeals to the public to report them when noticed.
Dr. Dominic Obeng- Andoh, the Medical Director of the Obengfo hospital has been charged with murder and he is in the custody of the Accra District Court.
