According to an international representative of amnesty international, Sabrina Tucci, Ghana last executed the death penalty in 1993. As of 30th December 2016,148 prisoners were on death penalty row in Ghana-144 men and 4 women. All were sentenced to death for murder. Amnesty international also recorded 107 prisoners on death row during two visits in august 2016 and March 2017 comprising of 104 men and 3 women.

Considering the appalling conditions of prisoners on death penalty row, Amnesty international appeals to the authorities to provide prisoners with adequate food and medical assistance.
