EAST AKYIM MUNICIPAL BANS ELECTRONIC GAMBLING

The East Akim Municipal Assembly of the Eastern Region is set to ban the operations of numerous Chinese jackpots scattered across the municipality due to its effects on the education of school children.

The Assembly is therefore considering not renewing licenses of operators at the end of the year.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Simon Peter Asirifi made this known at an Assembly meeting held at
Kibi.

The comment comes after earlier sentiments from Akyem Tafo chief, Osabarima Adusei Peasah IV and Abuakwa North MP, Hon. Gifty Twum Ampofo on the negative effects of these jackpots.

According to the MCE, the activities of these jackpot operators is gradually affecting the quality of education within the municipality as students refused to attend classes as well as concentrate on their studies after school.

“The Assembly cannot sit down and watch these
things to go on due to its consequences on the
quality of education,” Mr. Asirifi stated.

Meanwhile, some members have expressed worry as they failed to elect a Presiding Member for the seventh time and blamed it on partisan twist being played by their colleagues.

“This is the 7th time of voting without getting a PM and it is very bad,” Some aggrieved stated.
