TOP PLACES IN THE CENTRAL REGION, CAPE COAST

Central Region is one of the best places you can find in the country. Known for its significant and finest tourist  sights in the world. One can never talk about Ghana leaving the Central Region out specifically their capital town Cape Coast.

It is said to have most  old and ancient buildings in the country and the best schools in the nation.

Taking a tour around Cape Coast, these are the places and things you should look out for to make your tour around the region complete.

The Kakum National Park,  located in the coastal environs of the Central Region of Ghana , covers an area of 375 square kilometers (145 sq mi). Established in 1931 as a reserve, it was gazetted as a national park only in 1992 after an initial survey of avifauna was conducted. The area is covered with tropical rainforest The uniqueness of this park lies in the fact that it was established at the initiative of the local people and not by the State Department of wildlife who are responsible for wildlife preservation in Ghana. It is one of only 2 locations in Africa with a canopy walkway, which is 350 meters (1,150 ft) long and connects seven tree tops which provides access to the forest

Cape Coast Castle is one of about forty “slave castles”, or large commercial forts, built in the Gold Coast of West Africa  by European traders. It was originally built by the Swedes for trade in timber and gold, but later used in the Trans-Atlantic slave trade. They were used to hold slaves before they were loaded onto ships and sold in America especially the Caribbean. The“gate of no return” was the last stop before crossing the Atlantic Ocean

London Bridge can be found in Cape Coast. Is quite surprising that there would be a bridge like that in Ghana but trust me this is the only and famous bridge in Ghana. The once popular bridge (culvert) built in 1905 by the British Government and the first in the then Gold Coast,  which became a popular tourist attraction
The bridge served as a bond of good relationship between the people resident in and around the area and the British embassy to the extent that each year, especially getting to the Ogua Fetu Afahye festival, the embassy, in close collaboration with the residents, contributed towards its beautification.
The popularity and impact the bridge carried on the township, easily guaranteed by its central position, served as a barometer for measuring social activities in the township, usually described as ‘a town of beautiful nonsense.”
