On Thursday, 9th August 2018, 47 people were killed in an air raid on a school bus in the north of Sanaa, the capital of Yemen.
The school bus was bound for a summer school in Dahjan. This reports a spokesman of the German Press Agency.
Among the dead and about 77 injured people were mainly children which the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) notified on Twitter.
A Saudi Arabian military alliance cooperating with the government in the fight against the Huthi rebels, a civil war party, was held responsible for the attack. Since the escalation in 2015 the rebels are controlling wide regions of the country, especially the north and the capital of Yemen.
As the Saudi Arabian military alliance attacks mainly public places or private celebrations, like a wedding in April 2018, 10000 people – mostly civilians – were killed since then.
Just last week the UN Special Envoy, Martin Griffiths, announced that there will be peace dialogues for the first time in three years. These are expected to take place in September 2018 in Geneva.
