Outgoing president of Liberia, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has been expelled from her political party, Unity Party, for allegedly failing to support Mr. Joseph Boakai, the party’s candidate in the 2017 presidential elections.
Mr. Joseph Boakai who is the outgoing vice president of Liberia lost the presidential elections to Ex footballer George Tawlon Manneh Oppong Ousman Weah in December last year.
President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf who is Africa’s first female president, could not compete in the elections again so the party chose her vice, Mr. Joseph Boakai to stand for the position.
A spokesman for the party said President Sirleaf had violated the party’s constitution as she was seen campaigning with President elect George Weah, who was representing the Coalition for Democratic Change.
There has been no word from the camp of the president, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.
