US President Donald Trump has already announced several times that he does not like the nuclear deal with Iran. Now he has decided how to proceed with it.
“I have decided”, Trump answered to questions about the deal concluded in 2015. However, he did not want to say whether he was going to withdraw his country from the agreement or not. In his first speech in front of the plenary meeting, on Tuesday, Trump referred to the nuclear agreement as an “embarrassment” for the USA.
Until the 15th of October Trump has time to certify to Iran that he is holding on to the agreement. In the agreement, Tehran has promised in return, to restrict those parts of his nuclear program that could be used for the construction of nuclear weapons.
The Iranian President Hassan Ruhani responded with sharp words on Trumps criticism. “It would be a pity if the agreement would be destroyed by deceiving newcomers in the world of politics” said Ruhani in his speech in front of the plenary meeting on Wednesday.
With violations of international obligations, the new US government would only destroy its own credibility, Ruhani said. Iran had repeatedly accused the Trump government not to comply with their commitments to sanctions.
